18 DAYS 17 NIGHTS NORTH, CENTRAL SOUTH VIETNAM AND SIAM REAP CAMBODIA

Day 1   HANOI Arrival

Meet upon arrival at Hanoi airport; welcome by your guide and transfer you to your selected hotel.The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Overnight in Hanoi.

 

Day 2   HANOI 

After breakfast, spend a day touring the capital, including a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Mondays and Fridays), his personal residence, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Tran Quoc Pagoda. Then, depart to the Museum of Ethnology (closed on Monday) and its striking exhibition about the Vietnamese ethnic plurality.

In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Literature. Then start a one-hour rickshaw tour of the capital and spend some time wandering in the old quarter and its antique shops before visiting Ngoc Son Temple located on the   Hoan Kiem Lake. Enjoy the water puppet show early in the evening. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 3   HANOI / lao cai

After breakfast, free time at leisure. In the evening, transfer to the railway station to catch the night train to Lao Cai (Departure: 21h15 on the local train).

Overnight on board.

 

Day 4   LAO CAI / SAPA

Arrive at Lao Cai station in the early morning and drive through winding road to Sapa (1 hour). Sapa is home to numerous colorful hill tribes (Black Hmong, Flower Hmong, Red Dao) and to Vietnam’s highest peak Mount Fansipan.

In the afternoon, visit the Thac Tien Waterfalls (1.3km to reach the waterfall). Return to Sapa town to visit its local market.

Overnight in Sapa.

 

Day 5    SAPA

Breakfast at the hotel and early departure for a full day discovering the minority villages located in the Sapa Valley. Drive to Lao Chai and then walk 2 km through rice fields, passing by traditional Black Hmong houses before continuing to Ta Van Village (2 more km) to visit a Giay minority village.

In the afternoon, the hike then reaches the bamboo forest of Giang Ta Chai. This part of the trip is fascinating because of its beautiful sceneries and colorful ethnic minorities such as the Red Dao.

In the afternoon, visit of Rong mountain and Cat Cat Village.

Overnight in Sapa.

 

Day 6     SAPA / LAO CAI

After breakfast, depart to one of the several minority markets in the region. Depending on the day, markets can be held in different villages. Here you will meet various ethnic minorities who come to exchange not only the goods but also the gossips from their own community. Return to Lao Cai for the overnight train back to Hanoi (departure at 20h15).

Day 7    LAO CAI / HANOI / HALONG

Arrive in Hanoi at around 4h30 (local train) or 5h30 (Victoria train) and proceed to city center. Transfer to your hotel for breakfast and/or day room at use. After breakfast, transfer to Halong Bay (7:30 or 8am). Arrive around 12:00 and board the junk for a memorable cruise to discover one of the natural marvels of Vietnam. Lunch is served on board.

During the navigation, the boat passes by numerous islets and stops at a natural cave. Finally enjoy a swim in the jade waters of the Gulf of Tonkin (if the weather permits).

Dinner and overnight on the junk.

Note: the private guide is not authorized to accompany passengers on board the junk. For the duration of the cruise he will be replaced by a local guide.


Day 8   HALONG / HANOI

After breakfast, discover some of the most famous islands of the bay as well as a natural cave. The cruise ends at around 11am.

Then, drive back to Hanoi. On the way, stop to visit Phu Lang ceramic village in Bac Ninh where you can enjoy a walk down the road and visit varieties of ceramic workshops. Then transfer to the airport for your flight to Hue. Upon arrival, welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

Day 9  HUE

After breakfast, visit the Imperial Citadel and Tu Duc Mausoleum which was built according to the mysterious rules of geomancy.

In the afternoon, visit the Emperor Minh Mang’s Mausoleum and continue your journey to the seven-storey Thien Mu Pagoda located on the riverbank. On the way back, stop at villages to see how conical hats and incense sticks are made.

Overnight in Hue.

 

 

Day 10  HUE / DANANG / HOI AN

After breakfast, depart to Danang via the Hai Van Pass. On arrival, visit the Cham Museum which presents the greatest collection about Champa civilization and continue your trip to Hoi An.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 11  HOI AN

 

After breakfast, pick up at your hotel and visit the famous Old Quarter of Hoi An. The important trading port during the 17th and 18th centuries is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a walk around Hoi An ancient town and explore its treasures, including the Japanese Temple and Fuk Kien Pagoda. Finally, pay a visit to a lantern making cottage and learn how to make one on your own.

In the afternoon, excursion by boat on the Thu Bon River with a stop along the way at a traditional ceramic and carpentry village. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Hoi An.

 

Day 12  HOI AN / DANANG / HO CHI MINH CITY 

 

After breakfast, transfer to the Danang airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival, welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 13  HO CHI MINH CITY  

 

After breakfast, spend a full day touring the bustling city of Saigon: visit Cho Lon, Binh Tay Market, Thien Hau Pagoda and Giac Lam Pagoda. Stop then at a lacquer ware factory where you will discover one of the ancient traditions of Saigon.

In the afternoon, explore the Colonial Residential quarter which includes the Hotel de Ville, Opera House, Central Post Office as well as the elegant 19th century Notre-Dame Cathedral and the most recent Reunification Palace (inside). Finally, end the day with a visit to the War Remnants Museum.4

 

Day 14   HO CHI MINH CITY / CU CHI / HO CHI MINH CITY

 

After breakfast, departure to Cu Chi. Arrival at Cu Chi and visit the underground city composed of a network of over 250 km of tunnels that the Viet Minh used against French troops and Viet Cong against American ones. After the visit, transfer back to Saigon. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.           

 

Day 15  HO CHI MINH CITY / SIEM REAP

 

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 16  SIEM REAP 

After breakfast, visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom, a huge architectural complex with the famous Bayon temple at its center. This mountain-temple was once surrounded by 54 towers. On each of the 37 remaining 4 enigmatic faces can still be seen. Then exploration of the Baphuon which was fully restored by a team of French archaeologists after 16 years of work.

In the afternoon, visit Angkor Wat (early-mid 12th century) dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. This huge temple-mountain, built by King Suryavarman II is considered as the masterpiece of Khmer architecture and art. In the late afternoon, visit an artist's studio.

Day 17   SIEM REAP / KBAL SPEAN / BANTEAY SREI

After breakfast, drive to Kbal Spean. Walk through the forest (45 minutes) to Kbal Spean, the “River of a Thousand Lingas”. Here the symbol of the Hindu god Siva has been continually chiseled into the rocky riverbed. It was believed that the linga fertilized the water that irrigated the rice fields underneath.

In the afternoon, drive through the countryside towards the famous temple of Bantey Srey “the Citadel of Women”. This small pink sandstone temple (late 10th century) is considered to be the jewel in the crown of classical Khmer art because of its delicate carvings. Return to Siem Reap through the Cambodian countryside and stop in a center of golden silk production followed by the visit of Bantey Samre temple, marvelously restored. Overnight in Siem Reap.

 

Day 18   SIEM REAP Departure 

 

 After breakfast, free time at leisure until your transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
